We are all fish

We are all fish in a dirty little swamp
We try to move but cannot get much further
We grow, we live by eating mosses and junk underneath
We pretend to stay clean, stay green
When we are still dirty inside
We forget, after all
We are all fish in a dirty little swamp

The core essence of our life is buried in the mud
We can go deep beneath but never can we get above
I guess, that is our limit
We try, try and try to remember when all we do is forget
After all fishes do have short memories
We name ourselves goldfish, silverfish and starfish
We forget, after all
We are all fish in a dirty little swamp

The end has never really been our thing
Getting eaten by someone bigger
That is how it is
Even if we do survive the chain of fate
There is always hook and net
Some lives are so much worse
They get trapped in a tiny little tank box
And when you think it is all there
You are flushed back where you belong
We forget, after all
We are all fish in a dirty little swamp
